It was a
beautiful fall
day today and I
was out sitting
on my deck
enjoying the
sunshine. I
found myself
staring into the
sun and basking
up the warmth of
the rays. My
cats were
outside with me
and I heard a
sound in the dry
leaves on the
ground, as I
turned to look,
at first I
couldn’t see.
The only thing I
could see was
the outline of
the sun
everything else
was dim. I had
to blink a few
times to focus.
It seemed really
strange, like I
was trying to
see something
that I wasn’t a
part of. I knew
the sound was my
cat just a few
feet from me,
yet it seemed so
far away as I
tried to focus.

I realized this is just how we are with Jesus. If we keep our focus on Him, our “Sonshine” when we try to look away at the world around us, we can’t really see it. We are not a part of the world or so it seems. It all looks far away and dim to us.
I found myself
singing the song
that I heard at
church last
Sunday; it’s one
of my favorites:
“Turn Your Eyes
Upon Jesus”
Turn your eyes
upon Jesus
Look full in His
wonderful face
And the things
of this earth
Will grow
strangely dim
In the light of
His glory and
grace.
